Unknown to the world, Thomas Edison had a secret lab where he invented a virtual version of himself and a nearly-completed robot to guide and inspire future generations of young scientists. The secret lab, Edison’s virtual ego, and his prototype robot remained hidden until a 12-year old prodigy cracked the secret coded message that Edison left behind. The young genius and her science club move into the lab and the fun begins, including kids everywhere through a virtual link into their wacky world of discovery. Click to download the Thomas Edison's Secret Lab app now at the App Store, Google Play, Amazon, and Nook.
Together with the greatest inventor of all time, we’ll show kids how fun science can be. In fact, it’s a BLAST!
Edison is a guide and a mentor who never solves problems for the kids, but instead he offers principled advice and reminds them that with hard work and creative thinking, they can accomplish almost anything. "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration!"
Twelve-year-old Angie is a modern version of Thomas Edison, exuding drive, unfailing focus, and vision. Angie is fearless when it comes to experiments, often unafraid of potential negative consequences. Most of all, Angie is a leader who has the spirit of Edison that inspires others.
Angie’s 11-year-old brother JD solves problems by creating simple inventions or demonstrating some scientific principles from everyday items found in the field. JD is a bit sloppy, as witnessed by his lab coat that is always spotted with sticky, stretchy patches of slime. JD carries an omnipresent backpack that acts much like the Bat Belt - almost anything can come out of it, from a ball of string to a dirt analysis kit to an anvil.
Kent is the marketing maven of the team and his OCD plays in direct contrast to JD’s gross disregard for basic human hygiene. In moments of emotional despair for Angie, Kent does turn strong and expresses a base foundation of courage and sensitivity. Kent is also the surrogate audience member, asking how things work, so that the science can be explained naturally.
Edison built Von Bolt… almost! And JD brought him to life, finally! Think of a Crash Test Dummy, add a cockney accent, a positively naive countenance, undying faith in JD and incredible strength, and you have Von Bolt. Von Bolt will do absolutely anything for JD. This includes being crushed, crashed, kicked and corroded in the name of science. Through it all he remains upbeat, ever positive and totally faithful to JD.
